Live at peace

The last two weeks, my pastor has been preaching about broken relationships.
Yesterday he told the story of Jesus and Peter. Peter was not only part of the twelve disciples  but he was one of Jesus' best friends (along with James and John). I'm sure everyone remembers the story of when Peter denies knowing Jesus, three times, just a few mere hours after Jesus telling him this would happen. Days later, Peter and some of the other disciples were out fishing, and Jesus was on the shore cooking breakfast. Jesus asks Peter three times "Do you love me?", each time Peter answers "Lord you know I love you.".

The point of sharing this story is that Jesus went to Peter to make things right, even though Jesus was not at fault. Should we not follow His example.

In the last year, I've dealt with two broken relationships.

The first, was entirely my fault, not the other person's. I am happy to say that I went to that person to make things right.. we are back to being good friends.

The Second.. was a mutual issue, and has continued to be a toxic situation.
In the Bible it says: " If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."- Romans 12:18 . So here I am, making my peace. Not because the Bible says so, but because it's the right thing to do. I can't control what this person thinks of me, or what they say or do, but I can control myself.

I forgive said person for their part in all of this.  I harbor no hatred, anger or hurt. I have moved on. I am living at peace.

This wasn't easy for me, y'all. For those of you that don't know what the situation was.. I'm here to tell you it was hurtful and messy on both sides. If I can let go of all this and chose peace.. you can too. It's one of the most freeing feelings in the world :).

Shalom,

  1. I'm so glad you got your first relationship problem worked out. Losing friends is terrible. I'm praying for you and the other person about the second one though. By the way, this post made me think of Luke 17:1-4 and James 3. Jesus loves you!!
