I feel as if often times, we're only thankful when things are going our way. I know I, for one, am guilty of that. And even when we're thankful, it's about selfish things.
When are we ever just thankful to God for being who He is? God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. It's great to be thankful for the things that He gives us, but what about other things? What about being thankful to God when He tells us "no". I know that I've prayed many prayers that I am eternally thankful God didn't say yes to. My life would be very different if He had.
Okay, so it's one thing to be thankful for our families and having food on the table, but what about things that feel like bad things? I truly believe (when I'm in my right mind at least) that in God's eyes, all things are for good, but in our limited and human perspective... there are often things that seem bad. How are we to be thankful for those things? How are we to praise God when times are bad?
" And I'll praise you in this storm, and I will lift my hands. For you are who you are, no matter where I am. And every tear I've cried you hold in your hand. You never left my side, and though my heart is torn, I'll praise you in this storm."
It's a super difficult attitude to have... to praise God and be thankful, no matter what we're walking through, but I believe that it's vital for our well being. It's vital for us having joy filled lives.
So, this is what I'm working on right-now, because I'm rubbish at it. That doesn't mean I won't stumble and have bad days. It just means that I working on it. Care to join me?
Be the Light,
I'm with you...I so very much need to be. It's a hard place to be: thankful despite all. God is good all the time, and it's hard to remember when things aren't going our way.
